Italy was in my mind long before I set foot on the ground. I had romantic images of the Trevi fountain, endless pasta, and high fashion. Gorgeous cathedrals, countryside vineyards & cliffside villas. It is not surprising that so many couples choose Italian wedding venues.

Italy was so much more to me than I had imagined. It was like walking through two worlds when I walked the streets of Rome. The past and present were seamlessly intertwined. The modern world often tries to avoid the past and leaves it untouched.

It was evident that everyone enjoyed the food and took their time to enjoy a meal. (And, yes, I ate my weight in pasta.

This is romance in itself. Meeting of worlds, moving forward while acknowledging the past, slowing down, and being surrounded by those who mean the most. If you are considering Italy as the location for your “I do” day, here are a few places to capture the essence.

La Badia di Orvieto- Humbly called “an island in a sea green,” the La Badia di Orvieto is the stuff of Italian dreams. Ancient ruins lovers will be home in the cathedral and stone arches overlooking lush greenery. The rooms are decorated simply with antique furniture for a beautiful step back in history.

Castel Monastero The Tuscan Sun is a new experience within the walls of this beautifully restored castle. Relax in the almost 11,000-foot-long spa, enjoy a gourmet dinner in one of two restaurants, or let the stress of planning go.

Villa Alceo- A modern luxury nestled in the mountains of Northern Italy, this gem is unlike any other. Villa Alceo and a comfortable king-sized bed are perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors. You can also drive to Mendrisio in Switzerland, Lake Como, or Lugano if you want a change of scenery. Do not miss this space!

Masseria Petrarolo- This gorgeous white stone farm is only accessible by a drawbridge. It’s a romantic gem. The rooftop pool offers views of the Adriatic Sea, and the walled garden is filled with lemon and orange trees. Masseria Petrarolo is a beautiful venue for intimate events.

Casino di Mare For a more historic and rustic beach experience, Casino di Mare makes the list. The venue offers a variety of nearby attractions, including a beachfront and quaint local market.

Casa Angelina- Casa Angelina is the perfect place to stay if you want a modern touch on your trip to the Amalfi Coast.

Masseria Alchimia Imagine your family and friends gathering to celebrate amid olive trees. Masseria Alchimia makes it possible to do all of these things.

Domus Civita- Domus Civita is a unique blend of past and present. A footbridge will lead you just an hour outside Rome to a beautiful restored medieval home with pools and spas hidden in the caves.

Villa di Geggiano- The Villa di Geggiano, which has welcomed guests since 1527, is a perfect example of Italian style. This stunning home has caught the attention of many and has been featured in magazines and on television.

Chiostro dei Domenicani – If you have a large wedding party and are looking for a stunning, all-inclusive wedding venue, Chiostro dei Domenicani takes the cake. This venue is a colossal one. Why? This venue was once a convent. Prepare yourself for stunning halls and a wedding chapel.
